Workshop:

Anti-Racism: Going Beyond the Labels.

“I really liked the metaphors. They helped me think about how I encounter racism daily or am racist myself daily. I also think the 6 steps were very helpful as a way of thinking how much work there is to do to continue working toward being personally anti racist. And that it's very hard to keep moving forward through these steps, easier to stagnate on a step, and even easier to regress.

- Andrew

“This was another powerful and thought-provoking experience from Michelle. I love the ways in which she creatively brings us into challenging topics, especially the art pieces. I also appreciate the openness she brings - as she herself pointed out, bringing awareness to yourself allows others to bring awareness of themselves. "Liberation is contagious." Yes, yes, and yes.”

- Brynne

“Michelle's workshops make the world a better place. Thank you to Michelle for creating community and holding space to discuss the topics that are not discussed enough. I am walking away from the Anti-racism: Going Beyond the Labels workshop with a full heart and a refreshed awareness for the weeds of racism that are tangled within our institutions, programming, and systems. Michelle's workshops and community have been a touchstone as I continuously work through the steps to anti-racism. Thank you, thank you!”

“I highly recommend any workshop with Michelle Emmanuelle. At her Going Beyond the Labels anti-racism workshop, she creates an inclusive, interactive, and safe space that feels conversational while delivering learning objectives. I left the workshop having had the opportunity to reflect on my choice to participate in protests for the very first time in 2020, along with a clear personal action plan for moving forward in the commitment to dismantling the institutions and systems throughout which racism is woven.”

- Marisa L

“This intimate gathering was both heartbreaking and insightful. I feel armed with action steps that feel safe and approachable for me and my family.”

“Many anti-racist workshops are very intellectual and academic. This approach to discussing racism felt very healing.”

“Going into Michelle's workshop, I was feeling very stuck… I was even hesitant to sign up for the series Recess for Resilience because I didn't want to fail at practicing joy and have that be one more thing that I was struggling with. However, as the 3 part workshop series progressed, I began to feel lighter. I was able to identify all the little things that make me happy and practice more gratitude. I gained a deeper understanding of the psychology behind joy, positive thinking, and developing healthy habits. By the time the last workshop ended, I realized that I was even breathing easier. Because I was allowing myself to experience joy, I was letting go of many of the tension I was holding onto both physically and mentally.

Michelle's workshop was so necessary for my healing process during a difficult period of my life. The shift in perspective that I gained from attending has truly been life-changing. I have been able to incorporate many tools that keep me more playful, happier, inspired, and ultimately healthier. Not only did Recess for Resilience help me ground myself, but it was also so fun to share joy with others and witness the things that make all of us happy. I can't recommend this workshop series enough!”

“Michelle is a down-to-earth and inspiring teacher, coach, and speaker. In her Recess for Resilience workshops, she guided me in exploring simple, everyday ways to access moments of joy and to challenge my perspective. She weaves together creative activities, personal reflection, and group games to create very interactive, yet introspective experiences (and virtually over Zoom no less!). She grounds the experiential in science without turning the workshop into a lecture. Michelle sprinkles every interaction with a profound mixture of gravity and play. I left every workshop with a new tool in my personal toolkit and a little more spring in my step.”
